Ice Dam Inspection Services
Understanding the problem, developing a solution
Ice dam prevention is first and foremost about managing the movement of heat as it finds its way from the inside to the outside of your home, usually through your attic. Yet preventing ice dams is sometimes difficult because there are many variables involved. Ice Dam Company technicians use our general knowledge in construction in conjunction with site inspections and thermal imaging to develop a plan for each home. Ice dam inspections and ice dam prevention are usually addressed through three avenues: insulation, ventilation and air-sealing. We will discuss the specifics relating to ice dams and insulation in a later section.
Physical Site Inspections
Inspecting a home to determine why ice dams are occurring and what can be done to prevent ice dams requires a unique skill set. The best technician will have experience as a roofer, an insulator, a remodeler, an energy auditor and a thermographer. Guess who has that sort of horsepower on staff? Yep. The Ice Dam Company.
Thermal Imaging Inspections
We possess one of the most powerful infrared imagers around, and it can tell you a lot about your home. The goal of our inspections is to understand where thermal inefficiencies are occurring so that you can: 1) Avoid ice dams, 2) Reduce energy bills, 3) Make your place cozy.
Developed first by the Predator (right), infrared imaging enables one to see very subtle variations in the radiation emitted by things in our environment, such as heat escaping from your home, or Arnold Schwarzenegger in the jungle. Thermal imagers are used in industries including law enforcement, fire fighting, building inspections and medicine. There are only a few construction companies in Minnesota that own a professional-grade thermal imager (they cost as much as a used car). We are one of them.
